5-in-5: Day 5

Drawing inspiration from charades, I began with a body experiment to observe how people use body language to express common communication scenarios that we usually rely on words for. I asked participants to say “good morning” using only non-verbal gestures.

After collecting these footage, I built upon the concept from Day 2 of 5-in-5, using body skeleton tracking to record each person's movement patterns as they communicated through gestures. The goal was to construct a fluid and multifaceted “non-verbal sculpture”, resembling an assemblage of ever-changing expressions.

I found this approach intriguing and saw potential for further exploration. For example, it would be interesting to develop different prompts and observe how they shape distinct sculptural forms—how would the body language for “good morning” differ from “long time no see”? Also, categorizing and presenting movement data based on factors like age, profession, or cultural background could reveal unique and insightful patterns in non-verbal communication.
